Dentures are one of the greatest tooth replacement options, capable of taking a mouth full of holes and restoring it to perfection. Seniors are some of the people most prone to losing teeth, which means that dentures are often associated with that age group.

However, they’re far from the only people who can lose teeth, so they definitely aren’t the only ones who can use dentures. Here are some other kinds of people who may be at risk for tooth loss and for whom dentures can be massively beneficial.

Teenagers

If you primarily associate dentures with seniors, you may be a little surprised to hear that teenagers are often great candidates for this style of tooth replacement. Teens can lose teeth in all kinds of ways, and they’re sensitive enough about their appearance that they often want to replace their teeth as quickly as possible.

Dental implants are often recommended for tooth replacement, but because teens’ jaws are still growing, dentists usually won’t allow people of their age to have them. Dentures can be a great pick until they’re old enough to get a more permanent implant.

Pregnant People

Pregnancy does all kinds of funny things to the body, and many of them may come as a surprise to first-time parents. One thing that they often don’t expect is the effect that pregnancy has on their teeth, with many people seeing their oral health suffer significantly during pregnancy.

It’s not uncommon for pregnant people to even lose teeth, and dentures can be a quick way of replacing them that doesn’t put any undue stress on the body.

People with Gum Disease

Gum disease is remarkably common, with close to 50% of adults in the U.S. having it to some extent. While it can be mild, advanced gum disease can potentially lead to tooth loss, and not just in older people.

If someone takes less-than-stellar care of their teeth, or if they’re genetically prone to gum disease, it’s possible that they may need dentures at a relatively young age.

As you can see, there are all kinds of reasons you can lose your teeth. That means that plenty of people can benefit from dentures—you may even be one of them!
